![]() However we do see the beginning of another twist in the Talbot saga, a small hint of what is to come. But not without a serious confrontation that will leave everyone reeling on so many levels. The Talbot clan has regrouped and do what they do best, survive. (possible spoilers) They arrive and humanity, what is left of it, will tremble once again. Do they care, no but they are curious and three curious vamps are three too many. At the end of ZF8 we get a glimpse of Payne, Charity and Sofia, the three vamps that are determined to learn who is responsible for Eliza's death. ZF9 is the beginning of another twist in the life, past, present and future of Michael Talbot. But it was all a prelude for what was to come. The Eliza saga is over which led to the Demense group and the wild ride that left us breathless. But it is still Michael Talbot and there are enough laughs, chuckles and tears to keep every Talbot/Tufo fan happy. While I thoroughly enjoyed this installment, it is a bit darker than the previous ones. The long awaited continuation of Zombie Fallout and Talbot's comedy of errors that is his life continues. ![]() ![]() ![]() She was a chameleon that could seemingly produce fiction in any genre that piqued her interest.Ī lot of people know her for writing dark fantasy. It seemed to me that the scenes where I would've wanted more to them (the energetic, more demanding scenes) were cut short and the slower scenes were really dragged out. Scene by scene wise, I wish it would've been slightly less choppy. For me, it made perfect sense and I enjoyed the back and forth between past and present. Now when it comes to the set up of the movie, it could've been confusing to one who had not read the novel. The dynamic between every character, big and small, flows so naturally. Firstly, I think the casting was outstanding. We both read my copy of the book beforehand and enjoyed it thoroughly, so our expectations were high. *could present spoilers* I saw this movie with my mom and it did not disappoint. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Priya and Malini’s POV chapters are mixed with the occasional chapter from the POV of someone else, and everyone has their own goals and their own preferred means to achieve them, most of them quite ruthless. What I loved the most about the book were the characters and their complexity. Each has her own reason to hate the empire. Priya is one of the maidservants cleaning her rooms and, secretly, a former temple child. And if this is not enough, she is also sick from slowly being poisoned by the servant who was sent there with her. Malini has been imprisoned in the Hirana – an ancient, decaying temple – for disobeying her emperor brother and refusing to be executed by burning. ![]() And the romance subplot is exquisite – sapphic, morally gray, with with a strong hurt/comfort element. Not only does it largely live up to the hype, it reads really really fast as well. I should not have put this off as long as I did – my fears about this book being a slow read because it was epic fantasy were baseless. And perhaps they will not be as kind to you and yours. There is only the moment when power is placed in your hands, and there is one truth: either you take the power and wield it, or someone else will. I know there is no higher power that sanctions a king or an emperor. ARC received from the publisher (Orbit) in exchange for an honest review. ![]() |
